My dream for this project is that other artists make portraits of their local activists and we share them together, on this site and on social media with the hash tag #FacesOfRebellion. So please, join in.
What does it entail?
Make some activist portraits, add their stories, and send them to me. Use the contact form on this page; I’ll email you back. Then you can email me your portraits, and I’ll include them here with suitable attribution to you as the artist. Once you’ve done a couple I’ll create account for you so you can add them yourself.
Distribution and ownership rights
You’ll retain all your rights as the artist, creator and owner of your art work. And, as you can see from the footer, this site offers the portraits under a Creative Commons license that allows redistribution but disallows derived works or commercial use. You need to agree to that. I chose this license to maximize impact through sharing while, disallowing anyone to make money from this work or to make modified versions. So the faces and stories always remain together.
Format, content and style
This site is about the personal stories of ordinary people choosing to take action over the climate crisis. I’m excited to invite other artists to join in. Use your own style. Make as good quality digital images as you can.
- The images are portraits.
- The subjects are climate activists: people taking action, in some way, in response to the climate and ecological crisis.
- The images include the activists own words. The best way to do this is to meet them face to face and talk about what motivates them and what keeps them going. Great words describe what is alive in them at the moment; stories from the past feel less immediate and can be too long to fit into an image.
- The images are as good quality as you can make. My images are B5 size and scanned at 600dpi, but phone photos also work well, so long as the lighting is good.
