I recently started sketching again. It’s what I do, isn’t it? I’m a community artist. I create spaces to nurture our imagination and creativity, so we can start to visualize a better future. Its a part of ourselves that gets crushed. How can we be revolutionary and change things if we don’t have our creativity? And that’s why it gets crushed!
There was a training on nonviolent direct action and the environment, and I thought: that’s the sort of thing a mum should be taking her son to.
I get a lot of criticism for having been in Extinction Rebellion and now being on the council. I think it’s ridiculous. There’s a lot of amazing people on the council: human rights activists, environmental activists, food activists: incredible diversity of knowledge.
People are amazing! We hear so much crap, but we have to remember how amazing people are, otherwise we’d crumble.
As a community artist people like me. I create spaces for conversation to happen, and for creativity to flow. But as a councilor, people hate me. There’s a lot of mistrust and anger. We’re in difficult times, aren’t we?
We are all artists. It’s part of our connected, creative, empathic souls. The difference is what we do about it.
