There’s so much to do in the world; so much to be interested in; so much to learn; so many battles to fight.
Ad Block is my main thing at the moment: trying to make government have better policies on adverts, for all the harm they do, making us buy things we don’t need with money we don’t have. I’ve always found advertising, because we don’t ask for it, is like being accosted in the street. A lot of it is about subverting and hacking bus-stops: brilliant satirical funny adverts tackling companies who campaign against progressive climate policies.
I do a lot on air pollution as well. That’s another enemy of mine. I’ve got bad lung disease; my lung capacity is one third what it should be. I was in a coma for 2 weeks. I had emergency brohchoscopy that triggered a cardiac arrest. Technically I was dead for seven minutes. Diesel gets me so angry. The Volkswagen scandal got me so angry. Nothing got done! That inaction spurred me on to do more than just moan. We got the council to agree to a car-free day. They weren’t going to do anything properly, they weren’t going to close roads. So Extinction Rebellion closed he road outside City Hall. A brilliant dilemma action, because you can’t arrest people for making a car-free road on a car-free day you’ve agreed to.Matt
