The Earth is a gift; we should treat it carefully.
I’ve spoken to sheep farmers from Australia who said there wasn’t enough water to grow grass for sheep to feed on; people from Northern Canada talked about the permafrost melting.
I’ve a couple of children; I’m concerned on their behalf.
Societal collapse is a real fear. Jus from Brexit we’ve seen empty supermarket shelves. It doesn’t take much imagination to see that we can easily run out of food in this country.
For years I’ve been an armchair activist: giving money to Greenpeace and Friends of the Earth. Then a friend told me there was this thing called Extinction Rebellion. Before I knew it, we were on a coach down to London. I was bowled over by what was happening.
I think society needs jolting. That’s what we do with our activism: jolt society. When we had the heatwave last year, that jolted a lot of people. And sadly it’s going to tae serious events like that to create serious change.
