What is all this oil giving us? I’m not that keen.
I’ve lived in Sustainable Communities, and I like it. I’ve loved every composting toilet I’ve ever been in (in some way!). Working on an organic farm, one day, we ate our meal in the sunshine from big leaves like rhubarb, and didn’t have to wash up. It was a peak moment in my life.
Last time I was arrested the officer said the tunnellers had a choice. “They don’t have a choice!”, I said. They choose between something terrible: being in a tunnel for a week under the road to an oil terminal, and a slow (or quick!) death from the climate crisis. That’s not a choice. In my interview the officer quoted that back to me. And I cried. He hadn’t been there, he heard it from someone’s body camera.
The power makers haven’t had a low-impact peak moment. They don’t have a vision of a sustainable society, so they don’t want to give up our oil-rich lifestyle.
